Two different series run inside the same square mile of downtown Lakewood this summer, and they operate on opposite logics. One charges a cover, sits in a park amphitheater, and treats live music as the destination. The other is free, spills across a retail plaza, and treats the music as the reason you finally try the new taco spot.
Most residents I talk to still refer to all of it as "the Belmar concerts." That shorthand is costing them the good nights. Here is how the schedule actually splits.
Two Series, Two Venues, Two Different Nights
The paid Wednesday series is the Sounds Exciting! Summer Concert Series, run by the City of Lakewood inside the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Amphitheater in Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park at 801 S. Yarrow St. The free Thursday series is Street Fest, produced by the Belmar shopping district on the Plaza at 439 S. Upham St., a short walk east.
Both are outdoors. Both start around 6 p.m. Both are family-friendly. That is where the overlap ends.

The practical read: Wednesday is the night you commit to a lawn chair, buy a ticket, and let the amphitheater do the work. Thursday is the night you drift in from dinner, catch a set, and drift back out.
Wednesdays Belong To The Amphitheater
The 2026 Sounds Exciting! run is six shows, headlined by a returning name most Lakewood residents already know. The roster includes the highly anticipated return of the legendary Hazel Miller, and the lineup rotates through bluegrass, soul, indie rock, and Americana across the six weeks.
A few things about this venue that matter if you have not been:
- The amphitheater sits inside Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park, so the walk in cuts through the historic grounds rather than a parking lot.
- Attendees can complement the music with local food truck favorites and craft pours from the Foothills Credit Union beer garden, all while watching the sun set over the foothills.
- The ticket structure rewards planning. The season pass math works out to a per-show price well under the single-night walkup, and passes are capped while supplies last.

Thursdays Belong To The Plaza
Street Fest is the one to build a walking route around. Six free summer concerts on Thursday nights in the heart of Downtown Lakewood, on the Plaza at Belmar, with live music 6:00–8:00 p.m., food and drink specials from Belmar restaurants, and a silent disco 8:30–10:00 p.m. on select nights.
The 2026 lineup, as posted by the district:
- June 25 — Thumpin. Kick off the Street Fest season with one of Colorado's favorite party bands. Thumpin brings high-energy funk, dance favorites, rock classics, and crowd sing-alongs that turn the Plaza into one giant summer dance floor.
- July 9 — The John Weeks Band. The John Weeks Band blends blues, soul, rock, and classic Americana into a live performance that feels equal parts concert and summer backyard party. Their smooth sound and seasoned musicianship make for the perfect laid-back Thursday night at Belmar.
- July 16 — Dotsero. Colorado jazz fusion legends Dotsero bring their signature blend of smooth jazz, funk, and upbeat instrumentals to the Plaza. Their sound has become a summer favorite across the Front Range.
- July 23 — XO Band. Get ready for a packed dance floor. XO Band delivers crowd-favorite hits spanning pop, rock, funk, and party anthems.
- Chris Daniels & The Kings. Colorado music icon Chris Daniels & The Kings bring decades of blues, rock, and horn-driven energy to Belmar. Known for their powerhouse performances and incredible stage presence, this is one of the summer's must-see concerts.
- August 6 — Montage. Close out the Street Fest season with Montage, delivering a fun-filled evening of dance hits, party favorites, and live entertainment in the Plaza. The same night carries a Silent Disco on Belmar Plaza from 8:00 PM, which is worth staying for if you have never done one.
Because outside food and drink are not allowed inside the Plaza footprint, the Thursday economics push you into a Belmar restaurant for dinner beforehand. That is intentional on the district's part, and it is where the food scene becomes part of the concert.
The One Friday That Overrides Everything
July 3 is the night the whole downtown reorients around a single event. Friday, July 3, 5:00–9:30 PM at The Plaza at Belmar, 439 S. Upham Street, in partnership with the City of Lakewood, the Big Belmar Bash is a community celebration to kick off the holiday weekend.
Two things separate this from a regular Street Fest Thursday:
- The finale. The evening wraps up with a spectacular drone show at approximately 9:15 PM. If you have kids and you have been running the fireworks-versus-bedtime math for years, a 9:15 start time is the friendliest window Lakewood has ever offered on a July 3.
- The closures. Plan the walk, not the drive. Several streets close at various times throughout the day: W. Alaska Dr. from S. Vance to S. Salisbury St. all day, S. Teller St. from W. Virginia Ave. to the intersection by Fidelity and Milano Nails all day, and S. Upham St. from W. Bonfil's Lane to W. Alaska Dr. all day. Parking is available in parking garages and other surface lots.
If you live within a mile of the Plaza, this is a walking or biking night. If you live farther out, aim for a garage before 5 p.m.
Where To Eat On The Walk In
Both series push you toward the same handful of blocks, but the food geography is not obvious from the Plaza signage. A short field guide, working from the Plaza outward:
- Great Divide Brewery & Roadhouse — Belmar. Combines the craft beer legacy of Great Divide Brewing Company with the Colorado-based Vibe Concepts restaurant group. Firepit patio, full bar, and it stays open late enough to catch the silent disco crowd. Typical hours are Mon–Thu 11:00 am–10:00 pm, Fri 11:00 am–12:00 am, Sat 9:00 am–12:00 am, Sun 9:00 am–10:00 pm.
- TStreet Roadhouse. Located in Belmar of Lakewood, Tstreet is a contemporary, yet casual, kitchen-style gathering place for residents and visitors of Belmar, with the famous "Teller Burger" alongside more upscale items like P.E.I mussels. Good pick when a group cannot agree on a cuisine.
- Lady Nomada — Mexican Kitchen. Sits inside the current Yelp Top 10 Best Hip New Restaurants in Lakewood, CO list, last updated March 2026, along with Louis No 3 and The Barrel Room. Reliable pre-show dinner without a reservation on a Thursday.

Farther afield but worth the mention because residents ask about it every week: Simms Steakhouse is perched in the foothills of Lakewood, just west of Downtown Denver, along West 6th Avenue, renowned for pairing classic steakhouse fare with unmatched views of the city and Rocky Mountain sunsets. Not a Plaza walk, but the right call for the concert nights you decide to skip.
A Weeknight Playbook For The Rest Of Summer
Here is the shortcut I hand out when clients ask what to do on a random Wednesday or Thursday between now and Labor Day.
- Wednesday, want a real concert. Sounds Exciting! at the Bonfils-Stanton Amphitheater. Gates at 5, headliner at 7:15. Bring a chair.
- Thursday, want to bump into neighbors. Street Fest on the Plaza. Eat first at a Belmar restaurant, walk over at 6, stay for the silent disco if it is a select night.
- Friday, July 3. Big Belmar Bash. Walk in. Watch the drones at 9:15.
- Any other night. The Belmar restaurant list is the highest-turnover part of Lakewood's food scene right now, with new names surfacing on the local best-of lists as recently as this month. Treat a quiet Tuesday as a chance to knock one off the list.
The reason to care about the difference between Wednesday and Thursday is not the tickets. It is that Lakewood has quietly built two distinct summer traditions, one civic and one commercial, and they are meant to be used differently.
